Perception, Learning, Memory
In this event, Robert Hercus presented on what constitutes memories and how memories are recalled. His keynote speech explored the possibility of visual perceptions as the product of a direct experience of perception within the retina, as opposed to the conventional understanding of image signals being encoded, decoded and experienced within the visual cortex.

A Self-Balancing Inverted Pendulum Using the NeuraBASE
Neuramatix presented an alternative approach for the control of a self-balancing inverted pendulum without the use of a mathematical model as its online training attribute. Also presented were results of NeuraBASE's real-time adaptation to three different centres of gravity. For this research project, NeuraBASE was applied to learn the sequence of sensor events and their interactions with motor events, and to create associations between these two events.

Autonomous Control of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Using the NeuraBASE
The need for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) controller to operate autonomously and to manage its operations with minimal assistance from humans or rule-based controllers has steadily increased over the years. In this conference, Neuramatix presented a paper on the use of a NeuraBASE neural network as a learning network of interconnected neurons capable of storing sequences of sensor and motor neuron events. The model was evaluated using experimental scenarios on the STAGE simulation platform, which involved navigational control towards a stationary target. Results were presented on how navigational control using NeuraBASE could be successfully achieved.
